Prof. Dr. Sheldon Wang

Dr. Sheldon (Xiaodong) Wang is a tenured Full Professor at the McCoy School of Engineering, Midwestern State University (Texas Tech University System). He earned his B.S. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, followed by his M.S. in Ocean Engineering and Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to joining MSU in 2009 as Chair and Professor, he held academic positions at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (Georgia Tech), Polytechnic University (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering), and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. His research focuses on computational fluid and solid mechanics, fluid–solid interactions, and modeling of complex dynamical systems.

Dr. Wang has authored around 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and several influential books, including Fundamentals of Fluid-Solid Interactions: Analytical and Computational Approaches (Elsevier), Essential Mathematical Tools for Engineers, and Immersed Methods for Coupled Continua. He has received multiple honors, including fellowships from the U.S. National Science Foundation and U.S. Air Force, and was named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 2023. A registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas, he has also contributed extensively as a reviewer and editorial board member for major funding agencies and international conferences, and has held key leadership roles in engineering education and professional organizations.
